An unloved tiled space above a Sydney apartment provided the perfect opportunity for a swift Robert Plumb design, build and installation. The uniformity of the 80 sqm area was given warmth and character by removing some existing concrete tiles and replacing them with timber duct board inserts. Continuing the use of timber, custom-built furniture and pots in New Guinea rosewood were flat-packed to fit in the apartment’s lift and assembled onsite. With a focus on giving shelter from the wind, walls were battened and planter boxes installed, together with a new streamlined barbecue and bench attachment. Balancing the lines of timber are the curved terracotta ceramic pots by Cameron Williams, a highly regarded potter with whom Robert Plumb has been collaborating for many years.
